Aetherplane:Copyrights
All original content posted to the Aetherplane Wiki is automatically copyrighted to the creator of that content, per the Berne Convention. The Aetherplane setting and all content created for it (including, but not limited to, the content posted to the Aetherplane Wiki) is licensed for public use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA) license (version 4.0 or later). This license grants free access to media and written works published on the Aetherplane Wiki and based on the Aetherplane setting, with the understanding that attribution must be given to the creator and any modified or distributed material must be licensed under identical terms.
Some content has been imported under other Creative Commons licenses, which will be identified somewhere on a page that is associated with the content, indicating which license under which it is released. This identifier may be located within an article, on the page footer, in an image description page, or on a discussion page linked to the content.
The MediaWiki software, which is the framework upon which the Aetherplane Wiki has been built, is licensed under the GNU General Public License (version 2 or later) as published by the Free Software Foundation. A list of contributors and authors can be found in the MediaWiki CREDITS file, which is included with the software package and is also available online via the Git repository on the Wikimedia web site. Extensions and skins for MediaWiki are released under their own licenses, which may differ from the license under which MediaWiki is distributed.
Your Rights as a Reader
The Aetherplane setting and content from the Aetherplane Wiki are free to be used in your own books, games, articles, websites, artwork, or other media, so long as you comply with the CC BY-SA licensing terms. Creative Commons summarizes the terms of the CC BY-SA license as follows:
- Attribution - You must give appropriate credit, provide a link to the license, and indicate if changes were made. You may do so in any reasonable manner, but not in any way that suggests the licensor endorses you or your use.
- ShareAlike - If you remix, transform, or build upon the material, you must distribute your contributions under the same license as the original.
- No Additional Restrictions - You may not apply legal terms or technological measures that legally restrict others from doing anything the license permits.

Contributing Your Own Work
Contributing your original works to the Aetherplane Wiki thereby licenses those works to the public for reuse under the CC BY-SA license. This is the ShareAlike (SA) portion of the license, which govern the permissions and restrictions under which the Aetherplane setting has been licensed. You retain the copyright to the materials you contribute and that copyright is never transferred to the Aetherplane Wiki.
Using the Works of Others
Content can only be imported to the Aetherplane Wiki if it is available under a Creative Commons license or terms that are compatible with the CC BY-SA license, even if you are the creator or hold the copyright for the material. If imported content is licensed under a license other than CC BY-SA, the license and a link to the license terms must be clearly posted on the page or a subpage of the page on which the content appears (i.e., an article page, a talk page, a media description page, etc.).
Posting content to the Aetherplane Wiki in a way that infringes upon the copyrights of others creates legal liabilities for our wiki. Do not do it.
If you choose to rewrite content in your own words and create a new copyrighted work, you may do so as long as you cite the original source and do not plagiarize the original source. The following resources are provided to assist with better understanding copyright violation and plagiarism:

Plagiarized content, content that violates a copyright, and content that is not appropriately cited or attributed will be removed from the wiki.
Linking to the Works of Others
Hyperlinks that link to an original copyrighted source is allowed. Citations that link to and attribute copyrighted material are allowed and encouraged. Try not to link to websites that are knowingly in violation of a copyright. The following resources are provided to help you with understanding the concept of fair use:

Permission to link to copyrighted content is not required. As Wikipedia points out, "an author of a book does not need permission to cite someone else's work in their bibliography."
Copyright Law
The Aetherplane Wiki, the server that it is hosted on, and the creator of the Aetherplane setting are all based in the United States. Accordingly, determinations on copyright and copyright violations are governed by United States copyright law.
Reporting Copyright Violations
If you find content on the Aetherplane Wiki that you believe violates a copyright, you should comment on that page's discussion page or contact the administrators. We ask that you include your reasoning or evidence, so that the situation can be researched. Content that violates a copyright and content that is not appropriately cited or attributed will be removed from the wiki immediately, upon determining that a violation has occurred.
